WENDY CORBETT

Wendy Corbett Quay Gallery Guernsey

Pressured at school to forget art and “get a real job”, it took Wendy over thirty years to follow her heart and return to painting. Wildlife and the sea have always fascinated her and the decision to up sticks to Devon and turn these interests into a career has proved to be a very good one. She is now a very successful artist working in a range of mediums and exhibiting in her native Kingsbridge, the ‘Society of Wildlife Artists’ show at the Mall Galleries in London and winning the monochrome award in national wildlife art competition PAWS.

Wendy makes exhaustive studies of her subject matter before producing each piece and spends many hours drawing in great detail from books, film, visits to her local zoo and down by the shore. This discipline and meticulous observation results in stunning images that have been painstakingly captured.

“I try to convey the ‘magic’ that initially inspired me and hope to make the drawing come to life.  I never grow tired of watching the sea; I love the way it changes with the light, creating different moods and atmospheres. I particularly like stormy skies and seas. To stand in a storm force wind that you can lean in to and watch the waves crashing onto the shore, taste the salt on your lips is amazing - there is nothing like quite it”.
