MARK SPAIN
After art college, Mark decided to specialise in printmaking and opened a studio in Kent where he spent many years developing his etching and collagraph techniques. Following the storm of 1997 he was commissioned to produce a limited edition etching of Kew Gardens. Other commissions included pieces for Natwest Bank and the Dorchester Hotel and he also had etching editions published by CCA Galleries but as time went on, he felt the need to develop other forms of imagery.
Mark experiments with different subjects and techniques, which he then applies to a variety of images. His collagraphs have been exhibited at Mall Galleries and his oils at the 20th Century British Art Fair, Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows and the Barbican Contemporary Print Fair. More recently, Washington Green has published his figurative works.
“I believe that the mood and feeling within the painting are as important as the composition. This is an area that I enjoy exploring – the ability to capture a moment.”
